Jerez de la Frontera station, on Plaza de la Estación, is the one to use: [Renfe](<https://everyrail.com/spain/renfe/>) runs direct Alvia trains from here to [Madrid](<https://everyrail.com/spain/madrid/>) and [Seville](<https://everyrail.com/spain/seville/>) and regular trains to Cádiz and El Puerto de Santa María. Jerez-Aeropuerto, the airport station, is a few minutes down the line and has fewer trains.

## Which station to use

Use Jerez de la Frontera for the city. All the trains for the city stop here: Alvia, Media Distancia and Cercanías C1. The intercity bus station stands on the same square. Jerez-Aeropuerto is only worth a stop if you are flying.

## Trains from Jerez de la Frontera

Times are as of October 2026.

**Madrid.** Renfe runs three direct Alvia a day each way. From Jerez they leave at 06:58, 13:53 and 18:43 for Madrid Puerta de Atocha-Almudena Grandes and arrive at 11:07, 18:03 and 22:36. The 18:43 is the quickest, at 3 hours 53 minutes. From Madrid they leave at 07:05, 12:05 and 14:55 and reach Jerez at 11:11, 16:11 and 18:52, the last in 3 hours 57 minutes. On Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays there is one more each way: Madrid 10:05 to Jerez 14:03, and Jerez 16:45 to Madrid 20:54. At other times, go to Sevilla-Santa Justa and change there.

**Seville.** The 06:58 and 13:53 Alvia reach Sevilla-Santa Justa in 54 to 56 minutes. Media Distancia trains take 63 to 77 minutes. There are 15 or 16 trains a day on weekdays, 11 on Saturdays and 12 on Sundays, from 06:17 on weekdays (06:58 at weekends) to 21:15.

**Cádiz and El Puerto de Santa María.** Media Distancia and Alvia trains reach Cádiz in 35 to 45 minutes. The Cercanías C1 stops more often and takes 50 to 60 minutes; it runs about hourly at weekends and more often on weekdays. El Puerto de Santa María is about 10 minutes from Jerez.

## From the station to the centre

From the station, walk 579 m to Plaza de las Angustias, then 445 m on to Plaza del Arenal, the heart of the old town. The Alcázar is another 270 m, about 3 minutes, beyond the Arenal. City bus lines 2, 3, 4 and 5 stop at Estaciones (Minotauro) on their way to Angustias, and there is a taxi rank at the station. An ordinary city bus ride costs €1.10.

## Jerez-Aeropuerto

Jerez-Aeropuerto serves Jerez airport and is 9 minutes from Jerez de la Frontera. Only three Cercanías C1 trains a day run each way between Cádiz and the airport, in the morning, early afternoon and early evening, passing through Jerez de la Frontera. Media Distancia trains between Cádiz, Seville and beyond also call: eight a day each way on weekdays and five or six at weekends. Bus line M-050 links the airport with Jerez and Cádiz every day.

## Tickets

Buy Alvia and Media Distancia tickets from Renfe online or at the station ticket office. Cercanías tickets come from the self-service machines or the ticket office. Validate a Cercanías ticket at the turnstiles or validating machines at both the departure and the arrival station; an unvalidated ticket is charged as the full fare for every zone.

## Rail passes and reservations

A Global Pass or a One Country Pass Spain covers Renfe trains here, but some need a paid reservation. As of October 2026, the compulsory Alvia reservation to Madrid and Seville costs €6.50 in second class and €10 in first. Media Distancia trains to Seville and Cádiz need a €4 reservation. Cercanías C1 trains are regional and need none.

## Things that catch travellers out

On 24 and 31 December the 18:43 to Madrid does not run, so the last direct train is the 16:45. On 25 December and 1 January the 06:58 to Madrid and the 07:05 from Madrid do not run.
