Cordoba's AVE station sits on the [Madrid to Seville](<https://everyrail.com/trains/madrid-to-seville/>) high speed line, which makes Cordoba one of the easiest Andalusian day trips to book from either city.

## Cordoba to Madrid or Seville, both are fast

[Cordoba to Madrid](<https://everyrail.com/trains/cordoba-to-madrid/>) Puerta de Atocha by AVE takes around 1 hour 50 minutes on the fastest direct services, one of the quickest big city connections in Spain. Cordoba to Seville Santa Justa is even shorter, around 52 to 55 minutes, since both sit on the same high speed corridor. That makes Cordoba realistic as a day trip from either city, provided you check return departure times before committing to a single day.

[Renfe](<https://everyrail.com/spain/renfe/>) runs the AVE service, and OUIGO and [iryo](<https://everyrail.com/spain/iryo/>) also operate on this corridor at lower fares with fewer included extras. ADIF lists the station simply as Cordoba, while OUIGO books it as Cordoba, Julio Anguita: match the name on your ticket rather than assuming every operator lists the station the same way.

## Book early for the cheapest fares

AVE pricing on this corridor is dynamic, so advance fares are meaningfully cheaper than tickets bought close to departure. If you are comparing Renfe against OUIGO or iryo, check what is included: OUIGO's lowest fares typically include a smaller baggage allowance and no seat choice, where Renfe's standard AVE fare includes a larger bag allowance as standard. The cheapest headline price is not always the best value once you add extras back in.

## The station is a short walk from the centre

Cordoba's station is roughly a 20 minute walk from the historic centre and the Mezquita, or a short taxi ride if you are arriving with luggage or in summer heat. Local buses also run from outside the station. For a same day round trip from Madrid or Seville, allow enough margin between your arrival and your return train, since a delayed local connection can eat into the very short journey time that makes Cordoba worth visiting by train in the first place.

## Frequently asked questions

### Should I book Cordoba or Cordoba Central?

Choose the main Cordoba railway station shown in the train details. Match the station name to your ticket instead of relying only on a shortened city label.

### Is Madrid or Seville the better starting point for Cordoba?

Use the city that fits the rest of your trip. Madrid is a useful rail entry point for a north or international itinerary, while Seville is the simpler comparison when you are already in Andalusia. Compare the exact arrival time and ticket conditions before treating either as the default.

### Should I choose the cheapest train ticket to Cordoba?

Choose the fare that suits the whole journey, not simply the lowest price. Check the train's arrival time, baggage terms and change or refund conditions before booking, especially when an incoming flight or separate ticket could make you late.

### What should I arrange before arriving at Cordoba station?

Save your accommodation address and decide whether you will walk, take a taxi or use local transport from the station. Check that final transfer before choosing a late train, because a rail arrival does not make every hotel an easy walk with luggage.
