Padua has one main railway station, and it is called **Padova**. Search for Padova when you book tickets or check departure boards. From the front of the station a tram runs straight into the old town, so most visitors can see the main sights without a taxi or a bus.

## Padova station and train choices

Padova has 11 passenger tracks. Inside you will find a ticket office, waiting areas, toilets, a bar, luggage storage and a tourist information point. Outside are bus and tram stops, bike sharing, covered bicycle parking and cycle paths, plus car rental, electric charging and a car park.

Both [Trenitalia](<https://everyrail.com/italy/trenitalia/>) Frecciarossa and Italo high-speed trains stop here, and Italo runs about 11 trains a day to Rome, taking around 3 hours 18 minutes. Regionale, Regionale Veloce and Intercity trains also serve the station, so it works as a stop on journeys across northern Italy as well as a destination.

## Getting into the centre

The tram is the easiest way in. It is run by Busitalia Veneto. Board at the Stazione FS stop outside the station and take the southbound tram towards Guizza. The ride to the main sights takes under 15 minutes. The stops to know, in order from the station:

- **Eremitani:** the Scrovegni Chapel, with Giotto's frescoes, and the Civic Museums.
- **Ponti Romani:** Caffè Pedrocchi, the University's Palazzo del Bo and Palazzo della Ragione, with the markets in Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta.
- **Santo:** the Basilica of Saint Anthony and the Botanical Garden.
- **Prato:** Prato della Valle and the church of Santa Giustina.

You can also walk: take Corso del Popolo from the station to the Giardini dell'Arena and the Scrovegni Chapel.

A single urban ticket costs €1.70 and is valid for 90 minutes on buses and trams within Padua. Buying on board costs €2.50, and a day ticket is €4.70. There are ticket machines at the Stazione FS tram stop and a ticket office in the station. You can also tap a Visa, Mastercard or American Express contactless card on the tram validator to buy the €1.70 ticket, and each traveller needs their own card.

## Onward to Cortina

The Padova-Cortina Link is a Busitalia bus sold by Trenitalia. It runs four times a day to Cortina d'Ampezzo from the Busitalia bus station at Viale della Pace 1, lane 12, a four-minute walk from the railway station. The timetable is published to 24 October 2026, so check the dates if you are going in winter. Fares start at €14.90 when booked online.

## Accessibility

Padova has step-free routes, lifts, tactile paths and raised platforms at most of its 11 passenger tracks. Assistance for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility is available through Sala Blu Venezia, and it is best requested before you travel.

## Rail passes and reservations

An Interrail Pass covers eligible Trenitalia Regionale, Intercity and Frecce trains in Italy. Regional trains need no reservation. Frecciarossa and Intercity trains do: as of October 2026 the fees are €13 for Frecciarossa and €3 for Intercity. The Railjet trains between Munich and Venice, which cross the Brenner and call at Padova twice a day in each direction, carry a mandatory supplement of €10 in second class and €15 in first class. EuroCity trains to Zurich and Geneva via Milan also call at Padova and need a reservation of €13 to €17. Italo, which also calls at Padova, is not included in the pass, and neither are Padua's city trams and buses.
