Bolzano has two stations. Bolzano/Bozen is the one for the historic centre: Walther Square is a two-minute walk away. Bolzano Sud/Bozen Süd is on the Merano line, a short train ride from the centre, and is mainly useful for Fiera Bolzano, the trade fair grounds, or for Merano.

## Arriving at Bolzano/Bozen

From the station, walk to Walther Square in about two minutes, and the arcades, the cathedral and the main shopping streets are all within a few minutes on foot. The station has six tracks, ticketing, a waiting area, toilets, a bar and bicycle facilities.

Platform 1 has step-free access, and platforms 3, 4, 5 and 6 have lifts. Assisted travel runs through Sala Blu Verona: ask in person or by phone at least 12 hours before departure or arrival, during opening hours.

[Trenitalia](<https://everyrail.com/italy/trenitalia/>) regional trains connect Bolzano/Bozen with Verona, Trento and the Brenner line, and with Merano on the Merano line. Trenord runs one direct train a day from Milan: it leaves Milano Porta Garibaldi at 06:43, calls at Brescia, Desenzano del Garda and Trento, and reaches Bolzano/Bozen at 10:31 (10:57 at weekends). The return leaves Bolzano at 16:56. This is the 2026 timetable, which runs to 12 December.

From Munich, five direct Railjet and EuroCity trains a day, run jointly by Deutsche Bahn and ÖBB, cross the Brenner to Bolzano/Bozen, and an ÖBB Railjet links the city with Vienna until the December 2026 timetable change. Trenitalia's Frecciarossa runs from Roma Termini six times a day (five on Saturdays) via Florence, Bologna and Verona, and once a day from Milano Centrale via Brescia and Verona. Italo also runs daily from Rome via Florence, Verona and Trento.

## Using Bolzano Sud/Bozen Süd

Bolzano Sud/Bozen Süd is not the station for the old town. Trains between Bolzano Sud and Bolzano/Bozen take 6 to 8 minutes and run about every 30 minutes during the day. They are the regional trains of the Merano line, some of which carry on from Bolzano/Bozen up the Brenner line. Trains for Trento and Verona do not stop at Bolzano Sud, so check the stopping list before you board.

Use Bolzano Sud for Fiera Bolzano and the Fiera side of the city, then ride to Bolzano/Bozen for Walther Square. City bus 10B from the Bolzano Fiera stop to the centre takes about 20 minutes, so the train is the quicker choice. FlixBus coaches stop on Via Buozzi in Bolzano Sud.

## Rail passes and reservations

An Interrail Pass covers Trenitalia Regional, Intercity, Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca trains in Italy. Regional trains need no reservation. As of October 2026, the Interrail reservation fee on the Frecciarossa trains that serve Bolzano/Bozen from Rome and Milan is €13. On EuroCity and Railjet trains over the Brenner, seat reservations are optional, but pass holders pay a mandatory supplement of €15 in first class or €10 in second class for any journey to, from or within Italy, plus €5 more if bought on board. Italo is not included.

## Getting around South Tyrol

Bolzano/Bozen is the base for the Renon cable car, Merano and the Dolomite valleys. South Tyrol uses one timetable and fare system for buses, regional trains, the Renon train and local cable cars. Validate your ticket at the blue machines in the station, on the bus or online before you ride. On DB-ÖBB EuroCity trains you can also buy a €5 Connection ticket on board for getting around South Tyrol, valid on the day of arrival or departure.
