Bremen Hbf is where ICE and IC trains, FlixTrain and nearly every regional line stop, and the Marktplatz is about ten minutes' walk away. Bremen Neustadt is a regional-only stop that most visitors can skip.

## Arriving at Bremen Hbf

The station stands north-east of the old town on Bahnhofsplatz. About 100 long-distance and 410 regional trains use its nine tracks every day. The Messe and the ÖVB Arena are three minutes' walk from the north exit.

For the Marktplatz, walk about ten minutes, or take tram 4 or 6 from the forecourt to Domsheide, about five minutes, on the edge of the old town. A BSAG customer centre on the forecourt sells tickets (Monday to Friday 07:00 to 20:00, Saturday 09:00 to 17:00), and many stops have ticket machines. A single ticket within the city costs €3.40 until the end of 2026; fares change on 1 January 2027. A single ticket is good for one direction only, so the return trip needs a new one.

## Trains from Bremen Hbf

The fastest train to Hamburg Hbf takes 56 minutes, and up to 39 direct trains a day run there, regional services included. Hannover is 58 minutes away on the fastest train, also with up to 39 direct trains a day. Cologne takes 3 hours 2 minutes at best, with up to 20 direct trains a day. The ICE services run via Osnabrück and the Ruhr, with stops including Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg and Düsseldorf.

Berlin has no direct train: the fastest journey takes 2 hours 58 minutes with at least one change, and about 25 connections run a day. From 2 October to 12 December 2026, works between Hannover and Berlin slow the ICEs on that line by 60 to 80 minutes and Bremen Hbf has fewer long-distance trains; the works continue until December 2027.

FlixTrain's FLX20 runs between Cologne and Hamburg through Bremen Hbf, with one or two trains each way on Thursdays to Mondays and none on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, in the timetable valid to 12 December 2026. A Nightjet to Zurich leaves around 23:10 and reaches Zurich at about 10:05, and the train from Zurich calls at about 06:45 in the morning on its way to Hamburg-Altona.

Regional trains fill in the rest. metronom runs the RE 4 and RB 41 to Hamburg via Rotenburg (Wümme). NordWestBahn runs the Regio-S-Bahn lines RS 1 to Verden, RS 2 to Bremerhaven, RS 3 to Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven and RS 4 to Nordenham, plus the RB 58 towards Osnabrück.

## Bremen Neustadt

Bremen Neustadt is a regional station on Am Neustadtsbahnhof with no staff on site. RS 3 trains to Oldenburg, RS 4 trains to Nordenham and RB 58 trains to Osnabrück call there as their first stop after Bremen Hbf, all continuing via Delmenhorst. No ICE or IC stops, and the old town is better reached from Bremen Hbf. Use Neustadt if you are staying in the Neustadt district.

## Bremen Airport

Tram line 6 runs from Bremen Hbf to the airport every 10 minutes, and the stop is right in front of the check-in counters. It costs the ordinary city fare of €3.40.

## Tickets and the Deutschlandticket

The Deutschlandticket costs €63 a month. It covers regional trains, Regio-S-Bahn, buses and trams, so it works on metronom and NordWestBahn services, Bremen's trams and the airport line. It does not cover ICE, IC, EC or FlixTrain. It is a subscription, but you can take it for one month if you cancel by the 10th of that month.

## Rail passes and reservations

As of October 2026, an Interrail Pass covers ICE and IC trains in Germany, where a seat reservation is optional and costs €5.50 in second class or €6.90 in first. Regional trains, including metronom and NordWestBahn, need no reservation. The Nightjet between Zurich and Hamburg-Altona, which calls at Bremen Hbf, needs a paid reservation priced by berth and date. FlixTrain is not included in the pass.
