Saint-Malo has one railway station, St-Malo, about 2 km by road from the walled old town. Trains from Rennes and Paris end here, and MAT line 2, a city bus, runs from the station to the old town gate in five to six minutes.

## Arriving at St-Malo station

St-Malo station is on Avenue Anita Conti. It has free Wi-Fi in the waiting area, a ticket office, a Relay newsagent and toilets. There are no luggage lockers inside the station: left luggage is run by a partner service at drop-off points about five minutes' walk away, and you book it online. The building is open from about 05:00 to 22:00 on most days, until 23:30 on Fridays, and from 08:10 on Sundays and public holidays.

Two kinds of train call here: TER regional trains and TGV INOUI high-speed trains. Both run on the line to Rennes, and most stop at Dol-de-Bretagne on the way. TGV INOUI trains carry on beyond [Rennes to Paris](<https://everyrail.com/trains/rennes-to-paris/>) Montparnasse.

## Trains to Rennes, Paris and Mont-Saint-Michel

About 20 trains a day run to Rennes from Monday to Friday and about a dozen on Saturdays and Sundays. TGV INOUI takes 42 to 48 minutes and TER from 47 minutes to just over an hour, so the high-speed train saves only a few minutes. With a rail pass the TER is the easier choice, because it needs no reservation.

For Paris Montparnasse, three or four direct TGV INOUI trains a day take roughly 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes. Other journeys change at Rennes, often with a ten-minute connection, and take about 2 hours 30 minutes to just over 3 hours.

Mont-Saint-Michel is harder. Its rail stop, Pontorson-Mont-Saint-Michel, is 9 km from the Mont, with a connecting bus, and no train runs there direct from Saint-Malo. You change at Dol-de-Bretagne, where only two trains a day continue to Pontorson. The quicker connection takes 35 to 50 minutes and the other up to 1 hour 45 minutes, so work out both directions before you commit to a day trip.

## From the station to the old town

The old town gate is about 2 km from the station by road, or 1.3 km in a straight line, and MAT line 2 is the simplest way in. Line 2 towards Intra-Muros leaves from the stand marked Quai H at the Gares bus stops beside the station. The ride takes five to six minutes. In the timetable that runs until 31 December 2026, buses come about every 15 minutes or better through the day, Sundays included, but only about every 45 minutes on public holidays. The last bus leaves the station at about 22:00 from Monday to Wednesday, 23:00 from Thursday to Saturday and 20:30 on Sundays, so a late train can arrive after it.

Intra-Muros is the last stop, on Esplanade Saint-Vincent. The tourist office and a taxi rank are on the same square, which lies between the castle, the main gate of the old town and the beaches. From 20 October to 1 November 2026, during the Route du Rhum race village, line 2 ends instead at Avenue Louis Martin, at the village entrance a few hundred metres short of the usual stop.

A single MAT ticket costs €1.40 if you buy it in advance and €2 on board, where you can pay by card or cash. You can buy in advance on the MAT website, in the MAT or tixiPASS app, at a sales point or at the MAT agency in the station.

## Rail passes and reservations

Interrail and Eurail pass holders can use both train types from Saint-Malo, but the reservation rules differ. A TGV INOUI needs a reservation, which costs €10 to €20 in either class as of October 2026. TER trains, including the Rennes services, need none, because the only TER exceptions are in Normandy and Grand Est. For the MAT bus, buy a MAT ticket as described above.
