Avignon has two stations: Avignon TGV, out on the edge of town, takes most long-distance trains, while Avignon Centre sits beside the old town and handles regional services and a couple of TGV INOUI a day to and from Paris.

## Which station should you use?

Use Avignon TGV for most high-speed and long-distance trains. It stands at Place de l'Europe, about 4 km by rail from Avignon Centre, and is not a walk from the old town.

Avignon Centre is on Boulevard Saint-Roch, about a 2-minute walk from the historic centre and about 15 minutes on foot from the Palais des Papes. TER trains run from here to Marseille, Arles, Nîmes, Montpellier, Orange, Carpentras and Lyon. TGV INOUI trains between Paris Gare de Lyon and Miramas also call here, usually two a day each way, and take about 3 hours 45 minutes to Paris. The station name on your ticket settles it: if it says Avignon Centre, you can walk into town as soon as you step off the train.

## Trains to Avignon

Avignon TGV is the stop for high-speed services. TGV INOUI and OUIGO run to Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Lille and along the Riviera to Nice, and the fastest TGV INOUI take about 2 hours 40 minutes to Paris Gare de Lyon. Frecciarossa links Paris Gare de Lyon with Marseille Saint-Charles, the Renfe AVE between Marseille, Barcelona and Madrid calls here, and a daily DB and SNCF service runs between Frankfurt and Marseille. ZOU! regional TER trains use the station too.

Ticket machines for TGV INOUI and Trenitalia are in the south hall. The regional ZOU! machines are in the TER waiting area.

## Getting from Avignon TGV into the city

The quickest way in is the TER shuttle known as La Virgule. It runs direct to Avignon Centre in 4 to 6 minutes. On a normal weekday there is a train about every 30 minutes from just after 6am, with the odd hourly gap. At weekends and on some weekdays, school holidays included, it runs less often and the wait can stretch to an hour or more. The last train leaves Avignon TGV between about 9.45pm and 10.15pm, depending on the day. From Avignon Centre the old town is a 2-minute walk.

Orizo city buses leave from the bus station at the north exit. Line 10 reaches Avignon Poste in about 20 minutes. It runs every 20 to 30 minutes on weekdays and about every 50 minutes on Saturdays, and not at all on Sundays or public holidays. Line 20 runs on Sundays too, with a bus about every 20 to 40 minutes. It stops at Porte de l'Oulle after 10 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic, and ends at the P+R Piot car park a few minutes later. The last buses leave Avignon TGV between about 8pm and 8.30pm, well before the last shuttle, and taxis serve the north forecourt.

An Interrail or Eurail pass does not cover the Orizo bus. A one-trip ticket is valid for one hour, changes included, and you can buy it in the Tixipass app or from the ticket machines at tram stops and the main Chron'hop bus stops.

## Rail passes and reservations

With an Interrail or Eurail pass, high-speed trains at both Avignon stations still need a reservation. As of October 2026, TGV INOUI costs €10 to €20 in either class and OUIGO high speed costs €10 to €20 in its single class. Frecciarossa costs €10. Renfe AVE costs €10 in Elige or €13 in Elige Confort within France, and €25 or €28 on journeys into Spain. The DB and SNCF train costs €19 to Germany. TER trains, including the shuttle to Avignon Centre, need no reservation.

## Arriving late or with luggage

After a late arrival the shuttle is the one to take, as the buses have stopped by then. If your train gets in after the last shuttle, you will need a taxi from the north forecourt. Avignon Centre is the easier station with a bag, because the old town is a short walk away and partner left-luggage points are about 5 minutes' walk from the station. Avignon Centre also has an Orizo shop at the foot of the forecourt and a ZOU! ticket office in the hall.
